2026 Capital Maintenance at VCC
Continued stewardship of God’s blessing
Over 20 years ago our congregation made the pilgrimage north out of a character- and memory-filled but aging and small church in downtown Toronto. God has been nothing but faithful as that new building formed the foundation for the much larger church that houses no less than 6 (probably more) distinct but unified congregations today.
As the building has aged, for various reasons, we have fallen short of keeping up with best practices in building maintenance and operation. In so doing (or not doing) we have not been the best stewards of God’s blessing. This has manifested in a number of emergency and urgent repairs over the last handful of years. Most recently, the roof between the Agape Centre and washrooms was repaired to address leaks.
In recognition of this, a number of steps have been taken to better steward the building going forward. The launch of an operation and maintenance funding campaign represents a significant step to bringing attention to urgent and immediate requirements for replacement and refurbishment. The projects are scheduled to be completed throughout 2026, with the hope that all funds in support of the work are received by the end of 2026.
The EM congregation will be aiming to cover the ~$130,000 shortfall which results from the KM fundraising effort of approximately $350,000. To date we have committed $50,000 from the EM capital maintenance fund, with an additional $20,000 committed by the current Elders and LT.
We ask the congregation to participate as you are able, and submit any pledge intentions in the linked form to Elder Charles Park who oversees finances for EM.
Why give?
-
Stewardship and Shared Responsibility
EM continues to take a bigger role in ministry throughout the church. We are growing into the privilege we have received all these many years.
-
Strengthen Community
As one of many groups sharing the same roof, we continue to reinforce our partnership with the other groups: CEM, EM, KM.

The projects will be running throughout 2026, with some beginning as soon as this month. Understanding the widely varying financial situations of our congregation, we can accommodate one-time, monthly or quarterly giving. We just ask for a pledge to help us budget and plan responsibly.
-
A joint building committee is being established to better manage ongoing maintenance and operation of the church going forward. Given the age of the building, we can’t rule out unforeseen repairs, but we will be in a better position to track, budget, and maintain the facility and minimize surprise repairs or remediation.

All of the pledges will be automatically closed out, with reminders for any outstanding amounts.
